Record decisions in the wiki and link them to issues

An issue records what was done, but why it was decided that way tends to scatter across meetings and chats. Write the decision down as a wiki page and link it with the related issues, and whoever opens the issue months later finds the reason in one step.

  1. Create a new page in a wiki space from the sidebar. Start with just the General space, and split pages into spaces by team or topic once they pile up.
  2. Write three things: what was decided, why, and who decided. Three lines are enough.
  3. For meeting notes, put the date in the title and turn action items into issues right in the meeting.

Pages and issues link in both directions.

  • From the page to the issue — Use Copy link on the issue page to copy the issue’s address, paste it into the page body, and save. The page then appears in the Mentioned in … list at the bottom of that issue’s page, so anyone looking at the issue can jump to it. Addresses of projects, initiatives, and other wiki pages link the same way.
  • From the issue to a page — Click Create linked doc in the Linked Documents section of the issue page to create a new page already linked to the issue. Use this when the decision starts from the issue.

On the page, Linked items shows the issues it is linked to. Addresses inside code blocks and addresses from another workspace are not linked.

A wiki page. The space's page tree is on the left, and the page title and body in the middle.
  • Select a sentence in the body to leave an inline comment. Mention someone with @ in a comment and they get a notification.
  • Every edit keeps a version. Use Version history to restore an earlier one.
